#BlackGirlMagic was trending on Twitter recently not only because of the Emmy wins of Viola Davis, Regina King, and Uzo Aduba. #BlackGirlMagic was trending due to the support of the Black actresses toward each other.
When Regina King won for Outstanding Supporting Actress in a Limited Series (American Crime), you couldn’t help but smile and yell “Brenda” from TV show 227 fame and tear up when Taraji P. Henson gave her a long congratulatory hug.
We grooved to the Ava DuVernay directed Apple Music commercial of Kerry Washington, Taraji, and Mary J. Blige dancing to songs from their childhood. It showed their personality when you are with friends. Two more commercials will be airing this week. #BlackGirlMagic
Many were moved when Uzo Aduba won Best Supporting Actress in a Drama Series for her role on Orange is the New Black.
Viewers cried once again when Viola Davis won (the first African-American in 67 years) for Best Lead Actress in a Drama Series for How to Get Away With Murder and Taraji stood up and clapped. #BlackGirlMagic
Viola Davis started calling current Black actresses names including Meagan Good, Gabrielle Union, and Nicole Beharie (Sleepy Hollow,The Last Fall). #BlackGirlMagic
Both Nicole Beharie and Viola Davis lived briefly in South Carolina. Beharie attended schools in Orangeburg, SC and Greenville, SC. Davis was born in St. Matthews, SC.
This is what young girls and young ladies need to see today. Not tearing each other down, but lifting each up and say “Keep going”, “Don’t give up”, “Congrats on your accomplishment”.
